Rafinha is a right defender and currently plays for Schalke 04 in Germany. He started playing football at Grêmio Londrinense, a club from his hometown, when he was a child. At professional level, he debuted in Coritiba, where he won Championship of Parana twice. When he was only 19 years old, he moved to Schalke 04. Rafinha also won a bronze medal with the Brazilian national team under 23 at the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing.
